Content DescriptionReturn to Top
The materials include correspondence, photographs, photo postcards, and negatives, the bulk of which is Walter's. The correspondence, virtually all in German, is mostly from relatives in Germany before and after World War II as well as from friends who also emigrated from Shanghai to such countries as Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Netherlands, and Scotland. The correspondence includes descriptions of life in the Jewish communities of these various countries as well as conditions in Berlin before and after the war. The photographs include images of Walter and his family in their hometown of Vierraden, Germany, his World War I military service, the Jewish community in Shanghai, as well as photographs of their house and friends in Seattle. The collection also contains some books, mostly in German and Hebrew script.
