In 1996, Marie Louise Willett received a grant from the Jacobs Research Fund to study the particle "wa" in Nxa?amxcin (Moses-Columbia Salish). She received her Ph.D. from the University of Victoria in 2003.

Recordings of the Moses-Columbian Salish language and photocopies of seven field notebooks from research conducted by Marie Louise Willett. Willett's research for this project, "An Investigation of the Particle 'wa' in Nxa?amxcin (Moses-Columbia Salish)," was conducted in Montana, Washington, and British Columbia through interviews with three fluent speakers of the language: Agatha J. Bart, Norine L. Smith, and Matilda Bearcub. The goal of this research was the particle "wa" and its lexical affixation.
