Director, Developmental Psychology Laboratory Preschool, University of Washington.
Florence Ring Harris (1906-1984) received her B.A. (1931) and M.A. (1958) in education from the University of Washington. She was a supervisor and head teacher of the University of Washington Nursery School, 1950-1962, and director of the Developmental Psychology Laboratory Preschool, 1962-1971.She also taught courses in early childhood education and child development at the UW. She served on a number of committees (on- and off-campus) related to early childhood education (see subgroups in inventory), and published several articles in professional journals. ). In addition, she served as guest editor for the Journal of Applied Behavioral Analysis, presented a number of papers at professional conferences, and participated in the making of several films. She died in 1984.

Includes material on Association for the Advancement of Behavior Theory, 1967-1969; Council for Exceptional Children, 1967; National association for Education of Young Children, 1967; and Experimental Education Unit, University of Washington, 1969.
Much of the material reflects her interest in behavioral therapy, particularly the use of reinforcement in behavior modification. The correspondence and subject series contain information about the progress of early childhood education and education for developmentally disabled children in the Seattle area. The research files in the W.U. Developmental Psychology Laboratory Preschool subgroup illustrate the types and methods of research conducted under Harris' supervision, particularly observation techniques and the extinction of undesirable behavior in children.
