Historical Note

Utah State University's first library was housed on the second floor of Old Main until December 1930 when construction was completed on a new 30,000 square feet building located east of Old Main just across the Quad. In addition to storing over 80,000 volumes, the new library held faculty offices for the English and History departments as well as classrooms. The library soon outgrew its space and over the years additions were constructed that virtually encompassed the 1930 building. In 1969 the library was officially named the Merrill Library after the Academic Vice President Milton R. Merrill who retired that same year.

The Cazier Science & Technology Library was built in 1991 and named after former USU president Stanford O. Cazierr. The two libraries operated simultaneously until 2006 when renovations began on the Cazier Library which merged the two libraries into one, forming the Merill-Cazier Library. The Merill Library was then demolished in the spring of 2006. A new Agricultural Sciences Building was erected in 2012 over the space that Merrill Library once occupied.
