Guy Anderson (November 20, 1906 – April 30, 1998) was an American Abstract Expressionist painter. Along with Kenneth Callahan, Morris Graves, and Mark Tobey, Anderson was identified in a Life Magazine article as one of the "northwest mystics," also known as the Northwest School. (wikipedia)

Scope and Content: Interview transcript, recorded 17 Mar 1978 and transcribed by Pat Svoboda.
This is a verbatim transcript prepared by the interviewer. It was used for the catalog for the Seattle Art Museum Northwest Traditions exhibit. Anderson describes the topics of conversation and activities of the painters in the Greater Seattle area in the 1930s and early 1940s. He discusses how he became aware of non-western art and religions and the influence of them and of Northwest native art on his work.
