- Summary
- The Medical Faculty Auxiliary (MFA) of the School of Medicine at OHSU donated these materials in 1997, upon the 50th Anniversary of its creation. Long known (1947-85) as the "Faculty Wives Club" it has a long history of being both a social network for spouses and "significant others" of medical students and personnel and a source of fund-raising and volunteerism for various things not covered in budgets. The collection expands on those activities.

The School of Medicine Alliance, formerly the Medical Faculty Auxiliary (MFA), was originally created as the Faculty Wives Club at UOMS (1947) in an effort to create a social support network for spouses of male students, staff, and faculty. Gradually it spread into public service work as well with volunteerism at Multnomah County Hospital and the State Hospital Association. In time they branched out with fund-raising activities. In 1972 the now-All Hill Holiday Bazaar got its start. In its first 3 years they were able buy items for the library,to help students with loans, and redecorated the OPC lobby. These activities all pre-dated official creation of the Volunteer Services and Financial Aid offices.
In 1985 the MGFA got its present name and began under Dorothea Pennington the popular "Blankets for Babies" program. It soon grew exponentially, and is now know as "Blankets and Books for Babies".

A wide variety of materials includes correspondence, newsletters, flyers and advertisements, magazines, vouchers, donation forms, andstray notes and post-it notes concerning the activities of the MFA. Especially heavy are the folders concerning "Partners in Medicine" and the "Books and Blankets for Babies program.
