Content DescriptionReturn to Top
Tape-recorded interview conducted by Meta Kaplan on 10/27/77.
Bertha emigrated from a small town in Kovna, Gernia at about age 14, stayed in Boston for one year, and then moved to Bellingham before arriving in Seattle. She tells of her work for Sisterhood, for Mizrachi and for the Talmud Torah. She had just a little night school education in America and her husband had modest earnings but she had a beautiful family life, inspired real love in the soldiers she entertained in World War II, and received a personal letter from Secretary Morganthau for her Bond Sales (credited to Bikur Cholim-Machzikay Hadath Sisterhood).
