Dr. Fernando V. Padilla was the director of the Chicano Studies Department at Washington State University during the 1970s, and later a professor in the Comparative American Cultures Department. He studied the cultural and legal recognition of Chicanos in the United States. WSU annually awards the Fernando V. Padilla Addendum to the Gabriel Cardenas Memorial Award Endowment.
