Biographical Note
Jack Richlen was born in Portland, Oregon and his family moved to Seattle in 1934. After graduating from Garfield High School in 1939, he worked in a meat market and eventually opened his own meat market in 1944. Richlen owned a number of businesses in the area of 23rd and East Union Avenue, including Herbie Tavern, Liberty State Bank of Washington, and a mini mart in conjunction with Shell Oil Company called Richlen Super Mini.

1 cd and 1 transcript of oral history interview conducted on August 18, 2009. Richlen discusses the Jewish community around the intersection of 23rd and East Union Avenue in Seattle. He recounts his and other Jewish businesses in the area as well as the history and demographics of the neighborhood.
