Virginia Asan joined the Physical Education Department at Eastern Washington State College (EWSC) in 1962. For the period spanned by these papers, she was the Director of the Women's Recreation Association. which became the Women's Collegiate Sports Program during the 1971/72 academic year.

This collection contains various types of materials relating to the Women's Recreation Association (later the Women’s' Collegiate Sports Program) at Eastern Washington State College (EWSC, later Eastern Washington University). Virginia Asan was the director of the these programs during the period covered by this collection. Materials in the collection include budgets, equipment inventories, schedules of events, policies, newspaper clippings, and publications. These publications concern the American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (AAHPER), in particular, the Athletic and Recreation Federation of College Women and the Division for Girls and Women's Sports.
