Biographical NoteReturn to Top

David Della was elected to City Council in 2003 and served until 2007. He chaired the Parks, Neighborhoods and Education Council (2003-2006) and the Parks, Education, Libraries and Labor Committee for 2007. He was defeated by opponent Tim Burgess in his bid for reelection in 2007. Prior to his election, David Della served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Norm Rice, the Director of State's Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs and the Community Affairs Director for United Way of King County. Since the 1970s he has been involved in a variety of labor and civil rights movements.

This series includes general correspondence from Councilmember David Della and his Legislative Assistants Elma Borbe, Tatsuo Nakata, David Namura, and Loan Nguyen. It contains internal and external correspondence revolving around the business of the city council, including correspondence related to parks, specifically Magnuson Park, the monorail, and the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

The folder structure of this series is that of the original mailbox as it was preserved by Groupwise exported through Nexic Personal Publisher. Original subfolder names and order have been maintained reflect divisions by both date and subject.

The Subject Files of David Della contain records to his tenure as a member of Seattle City Council. The largest quantity of records relate to Parks, specifically the Woodland Park Zoo and its long-range plans and issues surrounding the parking garage, and the development of Warren Magnuson Park. Other issues addressed in his records include alternatives for the Alaskan Way Viaduct and the performance of Seattle City Light. Della was chair of the Parks, Neighborhoods, and Education Committee from 2004 to 2006 and of the Education, Libraries and Labor Committee from 2006 to 2008.

Committee meeting records maintained by David Della during his tenure as committee chair. The Committee began as the Parks, Education and Neighborhoods Committee, but was renamed in 2007.
