Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Herman I. Keisler was born in Hungary on August 1, 1892, immigrated to the United States in 1913 at age 22, and was naturalized in 1915. Long active in his community, Keisler held a number of leadership positions in local Jewish organizations: president of Temple De Hirsch, 1954-1955; president of the Seattle Federated Jewish Fund, approximately 1942-1944; treasurer of the Federated Jewish Fund and Council of Seattle, 1963-1964; and chairman of the Personnel Committee of the Federated Jewish Fund and Council of Seattle, 1964. Herman Keisler and Betty Gold were married by Rabbi Levine of Temple De Hirsch on February 11, 1956. Herman Keisler died in February 1972 at age 79 in Seattle, Washington.

The Herman I. Keisler Papers includes correspondence, minutes, photographs of Keisler's involvement with the Temple De Hirsch and the Federated Jewish Fund and Council of Seattle.
