Dr. and Mrs. Albert L. Shelton were missionaries in Tibet from 1903 until Dr. Shelton was killed by robbers in 1922. They were stationed in Batang. Dr. Shelton was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 9, 1875. He attended State Normal in Emporia, Kansas, and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Kentucky University in Louisville. In 1899 he married Flora Flavia Beale, who was born in 1871 in Madison, Indiana and also attended State Normal.

The Shelton Papers consists of literary manuscripts, and tearsheets by or about Shelton, handwritten notes, and printed material about Tibet. One folder of loose photographs and one photograph album are included.
