Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Frederick Morgan Padelford (February 27, 1875-1942) was a professor of English at the University of Washington and later the Dean of the Graduate School. Padelford was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He was the son of Adoniram Judson Padelford and Anna Gordon Grassie Padelford. He married Jessie Elizabeth Pepper on July 6, 1899. After his marriage, Padelford and his family moved to Moscow, Idaho, where he was the professor of English at the University of Idaho from 1899 to 1901. In 1901, they moved to Seattle where he taught at the University of Washington for the remaining 41 years of his life. He had a collection of early work by Edmund Spenser in his private library, that was donated after his death.
