Biographical Note

Felix Skowronek (1935-2006) played principal flute for the Seattle Symphony from 1956 to 1957 and 1959 to 1960; Seventh Army Symphony from 1957 to 1959, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra 1960 to 1966, and St. Louis Symphony 1966 to 1968. Member of the Casals Festival orchestra in Puerto Rico and was a founding member of the Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet. Faculty member of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, and then at the University of Washington, where he taught for 38 years; served as president of the National Flute Association and Seattle Flute Society. He was a leading figure in the revival of wooden Boehm-style flutes in the USA and an expert in the use of various hardwoods in flute manufacturing.

Papers consist of music scores, programs and marketing materials, clippings, correspondence, biographies, photographs, and other materials pertaining largely to the Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet in addition to Skowronek's tenure at the University of Washington, his work in Puerto Rico, and musical career in the Seventh Army Symphony and other groups.
