Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Soroptimist International of Seattle-Metropolitan (SISM) was formed in October 1925, just a few years after the creation of the club's seminal branch. The club's membership consists of women who are CEOs or executives, or who hold another significant leadership position within a company. The primary goal of the club is civic improvement, particularly of the lives of women and girls around the world. Significant achievements of the Seattle Metropolitan branch include the Women's Opportunity Awards, the Violet Richardson Award, and efforts to end human trafficking. Soroptimist International of Seattle Metropolitan is still in operation, and the organization as a whole has over 1,300 clubs worldwide.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The first three boxes of the collection consist of the minutes of club meetings and issues of the club newsletter "Bulletin," which were intermingled in the original arrangment of the acquisition. Boxes 4 through 6 hold scrapbooks, which contain clippings, photographs, and other documents that detail the activities of club members and their associates throughout the club's history. Box 7 contains rosters that detail the membership of the club. Box 8 holds books that detail the events of the first two conventions of the American Federation of Soroptimist Clubs. Box 9 contains miscellaneous files that do not fit elsewhere in the collection, including records of certain events, historical files, and items from the Tokyo-Koganei Soroptimist branch.
