Historical NoteReturn to Top
Lee Griffith was born in 1887. In 1900, he was living with his family in Rolf, Iowa, a small town about a hundred miles north of Des Moines. That February, they boarded a train to move to Washington State. Griffith arrived in Spokane on February 26, 1900, and then settled in Deer Park and worked in P.J. Kelley's General Store. In 1903 at the age of sixteen, he went to work for the Spokane Lumber Co., on Wild Rose Prairie near Deer Park. About 1908, he moved again, this time to the farm town of Reardan. Minnie Griffith also came west in 1900, but traveled by wagon instead of train. She first moved to Latah, and then in 1903 to Deer Park where she met her future husband, Lee.
