Brevet Colonel Peter G. Stuyvesant TenBroeck (1822-1867) was a Surgeon of the United States Army and Medical Director for the Department of the Columbia, Western Territory, at Fort Vancouver. His military career began in 1847 and spanned twenty years until his death on December 19, 1867 in Portland, Maine. In addition to his time as the Director for the Department of the Columbia, Bvt. Col. TenBroeck served at locations throughout Texas, New Mexico, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, California, and Washington, D.C.

Copy letter book containing letters, requisitions, and reports dictated by Brevet Colonel Peter G. Stuyvesant TenBroeck while he was stationed at Fort Vancouver in Washington Territory. In his letters, Bvt. Col. TenBroeck discusses, among other topics, the need for medical supplies and additional medical personnel, campaigns against the "Snake Tribe" and other Indian tribes, the fact that the nearest medical doctor is in Portland, Oregon, and the depreciation of currency in nearby towns. The letters are addressed to surgeons working under Bvt. Col. TenBroeck and outside of his jurisdiction, including individuals located in Canyon City, Cape Disappointment, Camp Colfax, Fort Stevens, Camp Auburn, Camp Yamhill, Camp Currey, Camp Reld, Fort Boise, Fort Colville, Fort Lapwai, Walla Walla, and San Juan Island.
