Biographical Note

Thomas J. Page (1912-1991) was born in Spokane, Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1937 with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. He then worked on the Grand Coulee Dam construction project on the Columbia River in central Washington State. The dam was created as part of the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project to develop the Columbia River for waterpower, irrigation, and flood control. After initial excavation of the site began in 1933, construction of the dam was undertaken primarily between 1935 and 1942.

Content Description

The collection contains images of the Grand Coulee Dam during its construction between 1934 and 1938. Thomas J. Page collected these photographs while he was working on the Grand Coulee Dam construction project. He assembled the photographs into albums. Because the albums were deteriorating, the photographs have been removed from the albums, but the original order and page numbers have been retained.
