Harlin Talbert was born in Albany, Oregon. In 1909 he went to Chicago to "get into the theatrical business." Thereafter, until 1929, he worked with stock and vaudeville companies, and in theater and motion picture promotion as an actor, advance man, business manager and partner. He later promoted theatrical events in Albany.
