Historical NoteReturn to Top

Central Washington University's Office of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs originated in 1937 as the Director of Public Service. Prior to that date the President of the school managed academic and faculty affairs. The Director of Public Service evolved into the Director of Instruction in 1942, then to the Dean of Instruction in 1954. From 1965 to 1969, the position was referred to as the Dean of Faculty. In 1970 the title changed to Vice President of Academic Affairs. The heading of Provost was added in 1989.

This collection includes lists of off-campus course offerings at Central Washington University (1977-1984) and extended university programs (1985-1991), meeting minutes and agendas from the Extended Degree Advisory Committee (1989-1990), out of region course proposals (1981), agreements with Washington State University and the Tri-Cities University Center (1986-1990) and miscellaneous statistical reports and studies on off-campus programs.

Historical BackgroundReturn to Top

Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
