Historical NoteReturn to Top
Gale Dick, dean of the Graduate School at the University of Utah, is considered by many to be a true Renaissance man. He graduated from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950, and earned another bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of Oxford in 1953 and 1958, respectively. From there, Dick went on to Cornell University in New York where he earned his Ph.D. in 1958. He joined the University of Utah faculty in 1959. Dick is a renowned scholar of physics, a respected administrator, plays the violin, and is deeply concerned about the environment and community. Dick served on the Salt Lake Winter Games Organizing Committee and on the Technical Sub-Committee for this group. He was active in speaking to various community groups, including Zonta International, Project 2000, and the Utah State Bar Association. Dick sought out community involvment and, judging from his personal notes and correspondence, he took his part in it very seriously.
