I am single, but he has his family. I only use my old Eastman Kodak all the time because of my certain opinion, but he keeps his Graflex with Verito lens as you know. What do you think about those different points? Of course, if you dislike to see my pictures anymore, I will quit my entry at once and leave him alone to satisfy the questioner or you. I am sorry someone caused you such a trouble. I am waiting for your reply earnestly". (October 6, 1924)Letter from Photo-Era to Dr. Koike: "Please accept my thanks for your letter of October 6 in which you were very kind to explain to me the matter which I mentioned in my letter to Mr. H. Kira. Let me assure you that I personally, as publisher of Photo-Era magazine, did not think for one moment that you or Mr. Kira were anything else but two gentleman who worked together in photography as friends. However, owing to the similarities of the mounts used, the tone of the pictures and other similarities the question was raised as to whether or not Dr. Koike and Mr. Kira might be one and the same man. The reason for this was that two or three times in the past such a thing has been done by some of the workers in order to enter more pictures and thus have a better chance to win a prize. In the past I personally investigated two of these cases and proved to the satisfaction of all that two workers had been sending in pictures under different names and we exposed them for doing this sort of thing. You will therefore understand why the question was raised again. I am very particular, as publisher of Photo-Era magazine, to avoid anything which is not absolutely right and I therefore appreciate your writing to me and I hope that you will understand my position and realize that when any such matter comes up it is my duty to find out the truth. Indeed, I hope you will continue to send your beautiful pictures to our competitions and that Mr. Kira will do the same...Again expressing my personal regret that it was necessary for me to write to Mr. Kira and assuring you that I shall immediately take steps to correct the wrong impression which some have held, I remain with kindest regards, A. H. Beardsley, Associate Editor and Publisher." (October 13, 1924)
