Historical NoteReturn to Top

W. Edward Clark was an author and high school teacher. He was raised in Omaha, Nebraska and went onto receive his B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1935 and his M.A. in English and Philosophy from Columbia University. He was awarded a John Hay Fellowship and studied playwriting under Robert Penn Warren at Yale’s School of Drama. In March 1942, Clark joined the U.S. Army where he served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe, reaching the rank of Major during World War II. From 1946-1976 he taught at Central High School in Omaha, Nebraska. He copyrighted 15 plays and 6 books of poetry, winning many awards for his writing, painting, and photography.
