Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Herbert G. West was born in 1900. He married Sadie Kent on September 3, 1928, and together they moved from Portland, Oregon to Walla Walla, Washington in 1930. From 1934 to 1967 he served as the Vice President for the Inland Empire Waterways Association, and circa 1936 he was the President of Whitman Centennial, Incorporated. In his capacity as Vice President for the Inland Empire Waterways Association, West attended the 1962 dedication of Ice Harbor Dam.
He served two terms as the Walla Walla mayor starting in 1941 and ending in 1947. As mayor in 1945, West welcomed General Jonathan Wainwright for a visit to Walla Walla. West ran for a third term again in 1951, under a progressive platform, but lost the election. He died in June, 1974, but was survived by wife Sadie, who died in 1989, and two children.
