Historical NoteReturn to Top
John Parker Jr. was born on 14 February 1812 to John and Ellen Eskin Parker in Lanchshire, England. He married Alice Widaker around 1834 and three years later they were converted to the LDS Church. After his wife's death in 1844, Parker moved his family to Nauvoo, Illinois. He remarried and moved his family to the Salt Lake Valley. He provided the area with the first thresher to process grain. In 1862, Parker moved his family to Dixie, bringing with them the first mowing machine, thresher, and fanning mill. He opened the first store in Dixie and ran it until 1879. John Parker Jr. died in 1886.
