Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Brian Calvo (17 February 1976 -) was born to Jack Calvo and Sharlene Steinberg Calvo, the second of three sons. Brian’s great-grandfather, Jacob Policar, settled in Seattle from Turkey in the early part of the 20th century. Brian attended the Seattle Hebrew Academy as a child and was a member of the National Conference of Synagogue Youth. After he graduated high school he went to study in Israel at Yeshivat Neveh Zion. In 1997, Brian received his Associate of Arts degree from Bellevue College and went on to receive his BA from the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington in 2001. In 2000, as part of his BA in International Studies, Brian attended the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Brian now works as a Senior Mortgage Loan Officer in Seattle, and has been actively involved in the Sephardic community since his youth.

Contains essays entitled "My Life as a Sephardic Jew" and "The Seattle Sephardic Jews: An Interview with Charles Alhadeff" by Brian Calvo. The essays, written for a University of Washington course, explore Seattle's Sephardic heritage. The essays refer extensively to an oral history interview of Charles Alhadeff in the Washington State Jewish Archives collection.
