This collection includes fifteen United States Geological Survey Notebooks (USGS) with recorded information about river heights, elevations, and current meter notes on a variety of western Montana rivers, creeks, and lakes including: Big Blackfoot River, Big Creek, Bitterroot River, Crow Creek, East Die Lake, Flathead Lake, Hellgate River, Jocko Creek, Lolo Creek, Mission Creek, Missoula River, Post Creek, Rattlesnake River, Rock Creek, and Swan River. Various hydrographers (those who surveyed the waterways) maintained the notebooks. They include: C.B.F. Buckhouse, Jon Buckhouse, A.E. Franklin, Hugh Graham, John McCormack, A.H. McDonald, Fred D. Smith, George C. Westby, and Thomas E. Westby. The notebooks date from 1898 to 1904.
