Historical NoteReturn to Top
The City of Seattle launched its first web interface, the Public Access Network, during the week ending February 1, 1995. A total of 33 users accessed the site that day. From its creation, the City of Seattle website has gone through three web addresses, www.pan.ci.seattle.wa.us from 1995-1999, www.cityofseattle.net from 1999-2001, and www.seattle.gov , 2001-present. From 1997 to 2004, the percentage of Seattle residents using the City website grew from 10% to 50%. City departments launched their own websites between 1999 and 2001. In 2002, Seattle Channel, a Government Access Channel granted to the City of Seattle for the purpose of cablecasting government television programs, was launched. My Neighborhood -- The City of Seattle's Mapping Portal was created in 2006. The City of Seattle website has been awarded the Best of the Web City Portal Award twice, in 2006 and 2011.
