Professor of psychology and psychiatry, adjunct professor of education, University of Washington.
Professor Charles Riddell Strother was born in California in 1907, received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Washington in Psychology and Clinical Psychology respectively, and earned his Ph.D. in Speech from the University of Iowa in 1935. Before returning to Washington in 1947 he served as psychologist for the University of Iowa Hospitals, 1939-1947; Iowa Psychological Clinic, 1940-1947; and Iowa Crippled Children's Services, 1941-1947. At the University of Washington Strother held a number of appointments since 1947. These included the following: Professor of Psychology and Professor of Clinical Psychology in Medicine, Director of the Developmental Psychology Laboratory, and first Director of the Child Development and Mental Retardation Center, 1963-1973. His work at Washington has centered largely on brain injury, mental retardation, and associated learning disabilities in children.
