In the late 1980's, after many years of acrimony, there was a coming together of the descendants of the Mountain Meadows tragedy on both sides. Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Mountain Meadows Association was incorporated in early 1991 with a general objective to "conduct activities to preserve and perpetuate historic and patriotic values including, but not limited to, the historic district in Washington County, Utah, known as Mountain Meadows." In the late 1980s, after many years of acrimony, there was a coming together of the descendants of the Mountain Meadows tragedy on both sides. Together with politicians from Utah, Arizona and Arkansas; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church); and the general public, the group planned, raised funds for, erected, and dedicated, on 15 September 1990, a memorial on Dan Sill Hill overlooking Mountain Meadows. Three newsletters published by the Monument Committee, chaired by Utah State Senator, Dixie Leavitt, describe this effort. To assure its continuation, the Mountain Meadows Association was incorporated in early 1991.
