The Scott Preston papers consist of various drafts, published works, correspondence, personal files, and an assortment of cowboy poetry memorabilia. The collection contains all issues of the White Clouds Revue, works of Scott Preston as contained in other anthologies, as well as poetry books published by Preston and his Wind Vein Press.

Although Scott Preston was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Preston's literary career bean after moving to Idaho in 1980. Soon after, Preston began the Wind Vein Press and published his first book of poems called, counting the aerie escalator's steps. The Wind Vein Press printed five issues of Preston's White Clouds Revue as well as anthologies that focused on landscapes and cowboy poetry such as The Trouble with Dreams.

Preston was a prolific writer. For many years, he contributed articles, letters, poems and reviews to The Wood River Journal. Later, he wrote an article called "Potshots" for the paper. Outside of newspaper work, Preston wrote short stories, poems, and literary reviews for many journals.

As a poet, Preston became well known for organizing and performing in community poetry readings. He also participated in the Elko Cowboy Poetry Gathering for many years.

Preston married Shelly Studley in 1987. We was a father to two children, Sarah McKay and Anneka Preston. Preston passed away in his home in Missoula, Montana on March 21, 2007.

This series includes an unfinished autobiography, newspaper clippings, poems to Shelly Preston, and his personal collection of recordings of poetry. Preston was also a supporter and participant in the Elko Cowboy Poetry Gathering and his memorabilia from the event is included.
