Historical NoteReturn to Top

David Mackie (1903-1966) was born in New York City and educated at Williams College and Harvard Law School.

He practiced law privately in New York from 1929-1945. He then became general solicitor of the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western railroad, and later served as vice president and general counsel (1950-1953) of the same railroad.

From 1953-1965 he served as chairman of the Eastern Railroads President's Conference. As chairman he spoke on behalf of the thirty-seven railroads represented in the conference.

The collection consists of manuscripts of speeches, statements, testimony and presentations regarding the railroad business.

The collection includes over 130 speeches, statements, testimonies, etc.

The first series of speeches were given from 1952-1963 and they are identified in the paper finding aid by date, place, and audience.

The second series consists of statements, testimony, etc. from 1952-1954.

The third series contains material from a presentation by the American Association of Railroads (AAR) to the U.S. President's Cabinet Committee on Transport Policy and Organization, 1954.
