Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Henry Clark Jackson was born June 3, 1819, in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England, to Robert Jackson and Hannah Clark. Henry, a blacksmith, married Ann Oades and in 1846 and both were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The couple departed England for Utah in 1848, though they did not arrive in Salt Lake City for another four years. In 1861, Jackson took a second wife, Mary G. White, and spent several months a year in Cache Valley, Utah. In the mid-1860s, he and his family moved to Paradise, Utah, permanently and resided there for another 40 years. The father of 11 children, Jackson was an active member of the Paradise Ward of the LDS Church, holding the office of Patriarch. He was also prominent in local government, serving as Justice of the Peace in Paradise and Recorder for the Paradise Mining District. Jackson died in 1905.
