Historical Note

Pornprapit "Ros" Phoasavadi began studying music at the age of five, and continued throughout her life to master traditional Thai instruments and repertoire. She earned her BFA with specialization in Thai traditional music performance from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, and her MA and PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Originally recorded on Sony Digital 8 camcorder (no external microphone used); EC set copied by collector in Archives 2002-03.

Contents:

2003-1.1 Loy Krathong Festival featuring rituals and performances at a local temple fair in Bangkok including luk thung and movies; the second half of the video features the official temple fair at Wat Arun festival.

2003-1.2 Wat Arun Festival (continued from Tape 1) features the revival of classical performances such as sling & rod masked dance or puppets, and khon.
