Biographical Note

Phillip Levine graduated from the University of Washington with an MFA in Sculpture. He creates mostly figurative bronze sculptures, with influence from myths, dance, sports, literature, and social issues. One of his most recognizable works is "Dancer with a Flat Hat" (1971) which is located on the University of Washington campus on the landing steps that lead from Schmitz Hall to the Henry Gallery. He received the Washington State Governor’s Arts Award, Cultural Enrichment in 1997. Levine’s sculptures have been displayed in museums, and corporate and private collections in the Northwest.

Also includes records pertaining to Levine's artistic career including proposals, contracts, correspondence, financial records, drawings and designs, and ephemera related to specific works of art such as "John Muir, Standing", "John Muir, Seated", "Static Flight", "Triad", "Eternal Light", "Leap", "Mother Justice", "Gates of Prayer", the Herzl Ner Tamid Ark Doors, and more. The collection also includes personal records such as correspondence with other artists and clippings.
