Professor of political science, University of Washington.
Hugh Alvin Bone was born in 1909. He was a professor at the University of Washington from the late 1940s to late 1970s teaching thousands of students about the political process, campaigns and state government. His mission, as he saw it, was to synthesize political theory and reality. Bone was the chair of the Department of Political Science from 1959 to 1968, and still supervises students in the Washington State Legislative Internship program, which he started over 30 years ago. Washington Constitutional Advisory Council, Washington Constitutional Alternatives Commission, Washington Constitutional Revision Committee, Washington Electoral Reform Council, Facilities and Operations Committee of the Washington Legislature, Washington Registration and Voting Participation Commission, and Washington-Northern Idaho Chapter of Citizenship Clearinghouse. Bone was named professor emeritus of political science.

The survey on initiatives and referenda was conducted by a political science class under the direction of Dr. Bone and Dr. Benedict, ca. 1959-1963. The sample is of voters in Seattle and several suburban communities.
