Content DescriptionReturn to Top
The Lawrence P. James papers (1870-1965) consist of a microfilmed copy of a collection of clippings, notes, and transcriptions on the history of Little Cottonwood Canyon, kept by James. The materials are weighted heavily toward mining in the nineteenth century, but contain information on the development of the ski industry in the twentieth. Clippings are taken from several regular columns of the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News, the two major newspapers in Salt Lake City. Most clippings date before 1965 and deal as much with news events in the canyon, such as avalanches and recreational events, as with skiing. Mining reports and production schedules are transcribed from a variety of mining sources, dating from the beginnings of silver mining in the late 1870s.
