Historical NoteReturn to Top
The University of Washington School of Drama was founded in 1942 by Professor Glenn Hughes. Prior to that time it had been a division of the English Department. The School of Drama offers courses in acting, directing, design, theory, and criticism. The program includes an undergraduate major, a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA), and a Ph.D. The MFA program has several areas of study, including the Professional Actor Training Program, which is a three-year intensive course of study that prepares students for a career in professional theater. There are also programs in scenic, costume, and lighting design and in directing. The Ph.D. program emphasizes theater history and drama criticism.

Scope and Content: Masks (painted selastic) used in March 1985 production of Brecht's "The Good Person of Szechwan". This production was directed by Jack Sydow in Meany Hall. These masks are for the minor characters. The masks for the three or four lead characters were not transferred.

Former University of Washington President William B. Gerberding dedicated the plaque. Also includes excerpts of these events and a KCTS "Currents" program, February 1998.
