Historical NoteReturn to Top
Virginia Slocum Weaver was born Marion Virginia Slocum in Portland, Oregon on January 20, 1914. Her parents were Samuel Cecil Slocum (May 31, 1876-July 5, 1936) and Virginia Delano (July 8, 1882-May 7, 1964). She graduated from Caitlin Gabel High School in 1931 and was a student at the University of Washington from 1931 to 1934. She dropped out of school before completion to care for her ailing father, then attended school at Stanford University in 1936. Slocum was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the YWCA, and was elected junior representative to the Associated Students of the University of Washington (ASUW) in 1933. She died in Seattle, Washington on May 10, 2001 and is buried in Lakebay Cemetery, Pierce County, Washington.
