Biographical/Historical Note: A graduate school was established in 1899, lasting until 1902, and later revived about 1909. In 1966 the Research Division became Vice-President for Research; it was rejoined with the School July 1, 1976.

Scope and Content: Correspondence, subject files, committee and divisional records.

Earliest representation of the Graduate School in this accession is 1911 in the Graduate Week Committee subgroup, and in the general intra-university correspondence 1919-1927. These are but fragmentary remains. Annual reports (1938-1980) is the most complete series. The bulk of the records dates from 1960.

Scope and Content: Correspondence of the deans of the Graduate School, 1992-1994; correspondence of others, 1993-1994; and correspondence, lists, reports, and reviews pertaining to university centers and institutes, 1978-1993. Also contains a substantial subgroup of records documenting the operations of the Institute for Environmental Studies (ES) and its termination, including budget files, general correspondence, review committee reports, historical and organizational files, and subject files.
