Historical NoteReturn to Top

Nang talung is a traditional style of shadow puppetry from southern Thailand. It translates into "leather puppet talung"--Talung being the abbreviation of the city name Pattalung, where shadow play is popular. The puppets used in nang talung are significantly smaller than those used in nang yai, which features life-size puppets. Nang talung performances consist of puppets, narrators, actors, and musicians, who are separated from the audience by a white screen.
