Boise State University was founded as Boise Junior College in 1932, keeping this name until 1965. The institution was named Boise College 1965-1968, Boise State College 1968-1974, and named Boise State University in 1974. In this finding aid, the phrase "Boise State University" sometimes applies to the previous iterations of the school.

Oral histories about the history of Boise State University. Former Albertsons Library Special Collections and Archives archivist Don Haacke collected interviews in the late 1970s. Thomas M. Ansbach conducted interviews in the 1990s for his thesis, which was published as a book titled In Their Own Words: An Oral History of Boise State University. Interviews may contain audio and transcripts.
