- William Foster Dalton (1874-1955) was a Yorkshireman who began sailing in 1889. His travels took him to Seattle, Tacoma, San Francisco, and Oregon. Collection includes typescript letter from Phyllis Hester, Dalton's daughter, offering Dalton's autobiography to "Country Life," a British gardening and country living magazine; a manuscript summary of the autobiography by Kenneth Holmes; and microfilm of a manuscript book, "Wanderer's Life: an Autobiography," by Dalton.

Per note in collection: William Foster Dalton (1874-1955) was a Yorkshireman who began sailing in 1889. His travels took him to Seattle, Tacoma, San Francisco, and Oregon, where he worked as a lumberjack. He met and spoke with President Taft, who persuaded him to become an American citizen. At various times he was also a deputy sheriff and an officer in the Brazilian Navy.

Collection includes typescript letter from Phyllis Hester, William Foster Dalton's daughter, offering Dalton's autobiography to "Country Life," a British gardening and country living magazine; and a manuscript summary of the autobiography by Kenneth Holmes. Microfilm contains manuscript book, "Wanderer's Life: an Autobiography," by Dalton, regarding his travels along the Pacific Coast from San Francisco, California, to Seattle, Washington, in the early 1900s.
