Biographical Note

Richard Stanley Hobbs is an historian and archivist in Seattle. Hobbs received a Ph. D. from the University of Washington in 1989. He is the author of three books, one of which resulted from his doctoral research and dissertation.

Content Description

The collection consists of oral history interview recordings and partial transcripts of interviews, mostly conducted by Richard Hobbs with Revels Cayton. Interviews were used for Hobbs' doctoral dissertation, and later book,The Cayton Legacy: an African American family(Pullman: WSU Press, 2002). Donnie Hancock conducted a few of the interviews with Mr. Cayton, and Florence Mischel also appears on at least two tapes.
