On May 5-6, 1978, a Women's Studies Symposium was held on the campus of Eastern Washington University. It brought together scholars from colleges and universities around of the state of Washington for panel discussions on current research and thinking on women and their changing roles in society. The symposium was organized by Patricia Coontz, EWU Women's Studies director. Many of the participants prepared research papers, which were to have been edited for publication by Louis Saylor, catalog librarian at EWU's Kennedy Library. Unfortunately, plans for publication were abandoned after the Women's Studies Center did not receive a grant that would have paid the publishing costs.

This collection contains materials collected by Louise Saylor regarding the Women's Studies Symposium held at Eastern Washington University (EWU) in 1978. The collection Includes twenty typescript research papers on a variety of women's studies subjects; some were edited before Saylor received them while others were preliminary drafts. Also includes Mrs. Saylor's correspondence with the papers' authors, as well as newspaper clippings, advertisements, and agendas dealing with the symposium.
