J. A. Hogle and Company was established in 1915. It was based in Salt Lake City but operated in at least six other states. It started out in mining investments and grew to cover various other investments. In 1933, the company purchased a membership on the New York Stock Exchange.

The James A. Hogle papers (1925-1950) contain materials relating to the J. A. Hogle and Company (est. 1915) and its mining and stock interests. The collection includes maps of various mining districts in Utah, township maps, Salt Lake Stock Exchange quotes for 1934, news clippings, and ore statistics for Idaho shipments from Germania Basin.
