Historical NoteReturn to Top
J. William Terry (1895-1956) was a journalist, editor, columnist, and author. He spent sixteen years as national publicity director and editor for the League of Nations Association. He also worked five years as lecturer and circuit manager of the Radcliff Chautauquas.
Publications he worked for include the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the New York Times, the New York Sun and the Morning Call. He is also known for writing the books A Restless Breed,The Peacemaker, and They Were All Courageous.

Collection contains editorial correspondence, manuscripts of books, short stories, articles, clippings, and other miscellaneous items.
Outgoing correspondence is arranged chronologically, and incoming correspondence is arranged by name. Correspondents include Arizona Pioneers' Historical Society, Columbia, Free Public Library, Ohioana Library Association, Sylva, United Spanish War Veterans, and World Publishing Company.
There are manuscripts of eight books, including The Restless Breed, Yankee Outland, Don't Do It Again, and The Peace Maker.
There are also manuscripts of fifteen articles, including those with revisions in holograph form.
Short stories include "A Hobo's return," "Our Machine Made Culture," "Sans Sentiment," and "A Strange Chat."
Clippings include those regarding The Restless Breed,, and other books and authors.
Miscellaneous items include biographical materials, notebooks, contracts, pamphlets, and memorabilia (including press cards and stationary).
