Lois Batwell Howard photograph collection, approximately 1909-1930

Stage and silent film actress Lois Howard was born Lois Delano Batwell on April 7th, 1889 in Saint Louis, Missouri. Her parents were Charles Delano Batwell (1857-1954) and Sally Virginia Crocken (1885-1927). She appeared in more than half-a-dozen films between 1911 and 1915 credited under the name "Lois Howard." She was married three times: Mortimer Infeld (1908), Harry McCormick (1913) and William Warder Bacon (1930). She died on January 14th, 1961. Her death certificate lists her birth year as 1898, but she married her first husband in 1908. The last two digits must have been transposed in her death certificate.

The name Delano came from her grandmother Frances Delano (1833-1874) on her father's side who was born in Rochester, New York. There does not appear to be any direct connection with the Roosevelt Delano.(1)
