Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Donald and Lela Crawford met while they were both working at the Marine Hospital in Seattle. They later married and together started Airphoto, an aerial photography business which they ran from 1948 until 1971. The negatives in this collection were given to the couple and were not a part of their photography business.

Modified medieval Germanic-style firehouse designed by Seattle-based architectural firm, Bebb & Mendel. Designed and built between 1910-1911.

Images 2-21 show the crew, apparatus and horses at Hose No. 20 between 1909-1911. The crew listed as being stationed during this period were Lieutenant Frederick G. Galer, pipemen F. Luddington, C.E. Williams and A. Beattie, and drivers John A. Iverson and Hiram Little.

Built in 1909, Seattle Department Firehouse No. 20 served the West Queen Anne Hill and Interbay communities at this location until their move to a new facility in September of 1949. Horses were used at this station between 1909 and 1921.
